]]> Research in Motion recently gave developers an inside look into what the world of BlackBerry 10 will look when they handed out prototype phones.  These devices are in Alpha stage, but they give us insight into what direction RIM is heading. Their hope is to encourage developers to create applications for the Blackberry platform, by giving them the phone to test on and providing a range of software that will make it easier to port and develop new apps.

The type of app developer companies present at the conference include partners such as Poynt, Gameloft, and Occipital.  The games, content services and augmented-reality app categories were all represented.

The test phone they will be developing on gives them physical interaction on the device and allows them to see how the new software operates.  The device seen here has a modified version of the PlayBook OS, with the same PlayBook interface and gestures.

They placed soft-touch rubbery material and metal on the outside, complete with the BlackBerry logo on the back. It has curved corners, a slight lip around the glass front, a front-facing camera, proximity sensor, larger speaker across the bottom of the phone, rear camera with flash, headphone socket at the top, and microphone with noise cancellation.

Research In Motion CEO Thorsten Heins did say “this is not the final device, we’re still keeping some secrets to ourselves” , but it looks like the phone will need some tweaking in order to differentiate itself from competitors and win consumers over. Will developers invest time into developing new apps for a company that has seen much decline in the last year? And will there be enough to make the BlackBerry’s app world competitive?
