Blackberry 10 was just launched earlier today with much excitement. See how the BlackBerry 10 stacks up against other rivals in today’s competitive market.

Two models hit the markets, including BlackBerry Z10 (full touch screen model) and the X10 (touch screen with QWERTY keyboard). The Z10 will drop in Canada on Feb. 5, through several major carriers: Bell Canada, Rogers Communications Inc., Telus Corp., Fido, Virgin Mobile, SaskTel and Koodoo. The phone will start at $149 on a three-year term and cost around $649.95 with no term. It will also be available in all the common retail stores.

RIM, recently rebranded as BlackBerry, has been making big strides to make todays launch a successful one. Most notable is the new found importance in developers before the launch of BB 10. iPhone and Andriod phones have benefited tremendously by having loads of apps at launch, so this time RIM is working with app developers by porting apps from android and offering other incentives to develop on BB 10. It worked pretty well considering they received 15,000 new app submissions in just 37.5 hours at the latest app event, an industry record.

The new QNX operating system developed by an Ottawa company is definitely a big change from the older devices.  A much improved and streamlined user interface help users check messages and use apps easily. The new BlackBerry Hub for example let’s you display all your messages with one convenient swipe rather than having to enter each app separately.

1. Watch the Eyes

Many professional players will mask their eyes with sunglasses or hats in order to gain an extra edge on the competition. The eyes are generally a big tell because the player could be staring at big cards in there hand for a long time, or a player looking around the table to see if people are still in before they make their move. Another example is players asking you about your hand, and they are likely not able to stare you directly in the eyes while remaining honest.

2. Facial Expression

Looking downwards or having a cap on helps hide players facial expressions, which helps avoid eye contact and stare-downs that lead to other players reading you. People have many different expressions, some they might not even notice they are doing, such as nervousness (for detecting weak hands), or unhappiness right when the hand is dealt if you have a bad hand.  On the other hand, if you show too much confidence or happiness the other players will know you have a strong hand.

3. Over-confidence 

Don’t try to act when playing poker – if you go too overboard when trying to bluff it can cost you the hand. This generally applies to novice players when they have a really strong hand and act uninterested, saying things like “Oh, is it my turn to go?”. Also, trying to look too intimidating when bluffing is going to scare everyone off and make them fold.

4. Anxiety

This is pretty simple. If a player shows anxiety or nervesnous when being confronted on a big hand you will see slight physical changes to their face, speech or body. This could come in the form of flexing of muscles, eye pupil dilation, palpitating heart rate, and dry throat. Some pro players have been known to look veins in your face for blood pressure changes.

5. Chip Glances

Right after the flop, note the amount of times or how quickly the player is looks at his chips. He/she might be planning a big bet.

6. Repetitive Betting Patterns

Note how the player has been betting throughout the game to better gage your bets against that player.  For example, a player may always fold after being re-raised.

7. Body Posture/Attitude

This can be a big tell because a lot of players will change their posture/attitude based on hand strength. For example a player with a weak hand would likely slouch or shrug and a player with a stronger hand would be more inclined to lean forward and be very attentive.

8. Dressing According to Play Style

Some of you out there are going to want to dress based on what type of player image you want to portray.  This is especially important for those playing poker.  What we mean by this is for you to use your overall image as a tool to win, and your wardrobe can be a major part of that. Paul Pierce at the WSOP is a good example for this one as he dressed up and portrayed himself in a natural way making it work for his advantage. He portrayed himself based on his natural image. The way you dress can portray your playing style and the type of personality you bring to the table.
