Canada Gets Plastic Money
Canada has begun releasing plastic money starting with the $100 polymer bank-note, which went into circulation yesterday. The rest of the bills should follow by the end of 2013. The bill features various anti-counterfeiting features, such as partially hidden numbers.
The bill is roughly the same size as the old 100, but has an ultra-modern look to it. The transparent section, updated fonts and graphics, give it a cool feel. However, by being so flashy, this has made some people think of it as fake looking. Comments were made like, “If they’re more durable, it’s a great thing — but it looks fake,” or, “I don’t know if I would use it. I would have to be clearly informed before using it.”
One thing is does do well is in reducing the amount of counterfeiting. As a result Banks and Police alike are eager to begin seeing this new form of currency out there, which places like Australia have been using for over a decade now.
What do you think about the new plastic money?
